Social Media Policy
This policy outlines how I use and manage social media in line with ethical guidelines, and how I maintain online boundaries with clients.
Professional vs. Personal Accounts
I keep my personal and professional social media accounts separate. Personal accounts are private and not accessible to clients.
My professional accounts are public and used to share helpful content and promote my counselling services. I don’t share personal photos or details via these accounts.
Online Communication
I communicate online thoughtfully, aiming to be respectful, clear, and kind. Everything I post reflects my role as a counsellor, so I choose my language carefully.
Maintaining Boundaries
I do not accept friend or follow requests from clients. I will not identify anyone as a client online or engage in therapeutic conversations via social media. If a client wishes to get in touch, I ask that they contact me privately, via email.
Responding is Optional
I’m not obligated to respond to comments, messages, or tags. I will choose when and how I engage online and reserve the right to decline interaction.
Being Mindful of Impact
Before posting, I will consider how content might affect clients – especially those who may be going through difficult times. I will do my best to avoid content that could be misunderstood or upsetting.
Handling Negativity Online
I will not tolerate bullying, trolling, discrimination, or harassment. If faced with online abuse, I may:
- Block or report users
- Take screenshots with dates/times
- Contact the platform or, if needed, the police
- Seek legal advice if necessary
To protect my wellbeing, I may step back from social media, switch off notifications, or take breaks when needed.
Purpose of Posting
Anything I share is intended to be supportive, informative, or encouraging. My aim is to connect meaningfully, promote my services, and uphold the values I bring to my counselling work
